OPPMed is led by Cletus K. Oppong, MD, MPH, a Board-Certified Occupational Medicine Physician certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). He holds a Master of Public Health with an emphasis in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, providing advanced training in population health, exposure assessment, environmental risk management, and workplace safety systems.
Dr. Oppong began his residency training in Anesthesiology, contributing a strong clinical foundation in pharmacology, physiology, airway management, and acute patient safety. He currently serves as a United States Civil Surgeon, a Certified Medical Review Officer, and a certified DOT Medical Examiner. In these roles, he performs Department of Transportation physical examinations for commercial motor vehicle drivers in compliance with FMCSA regulations, offering practical insight into medical qualification standards, fitness-for-duty determinations, and federal transportation safety requirements.
He maintains professional memberships with the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC), and the American Association of Medical Review Officers (AAMRO), ensuring continued engagement with evolving best practices and regulatory compliance standards.
Dr. Oppong is licensed in more than 40 U.S. states, with ongoing expansion toward nationwide licensure and planned future growth into Canada. This multi-state licensure enables him to provide physician oversight, medical evaluations, and regulatory guidance to employers operating across multiple jurisdictions.
His professional experience includes conducting DOT and non-DOT medical examinations, law enforcement and firefighter physicals, and on-site workplace safety evaluations. He has performed worksite assessments and fitness-for-duty evaluations for major industrial and manufacturing organizations, including Toyota, U.S. Steel Corporation, Century Aluminum, and Fiestaware, with a focus on job demand analysis, exposure risk, and operational safety.
Dr. Oppong has also contributed to workplace injury investigations and prevention initiatives in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NIOSH through the Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program (FFIP). This work emphasizes identifying systemic risk factors and translating findings into actionable injury prevention strategies.
Additionally, he is a professional member of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) and possesses extensive knowledge of tropical and international work environments, supporting employers engaged in agriculture, global operations, and international travel.
