Bring Select Surveillance Diagnostics to the Workforce
When required by an applicable surveillance program and available in the employee’s area, OPPMed can coordinate select diagnostic testing through independent mobile providers at the job site, employee’s home, or another eligible location.
EKG
Mobile electrocardiogram testing may be coordinated when clinically appropriate or included as part of an employer’s physician-directed surveillance program.
Chest X-Ray + B Read
Chest radiography may be coordinated for surveillance programs requiring or supporting chest imaging. When a B Read is required, eligible chest radiographs can undergo standardized classification by an appropriately qualified NIOSH-certified B Reader.

OPPMed physicians can oversee the clinical components of an employer’s surveillance program, review available testing and diagnostic results, identify findings requiring additional evaluation, and provide appropriate follow-up recommendations.
When additional evaluation is required, employees may be referred for laboratory testing, specialty evaluation, occupational health services, or other appropriate in-person care.

Following an injury, illness, surgery, hospitalization, or other period away from work, an employee’s ability to return should be considered in the context of both their current health and the essential demands of their position.
OPPMed’s Occupational Medicine physicians provide virtual return-to-work assessments designed to help determine whether an employee can safely resume work, requires temporary restrictions or accommodations, or needs additional evaluation before returning.

When More Information Is Needed (Virtual Coordination)
Diagnostics
When clinically indicated, the physician may order appropriate laboratory testing or diagnostic imaging. Eligible employees may also have access to OPPMed Mobile Diagnostics, including X-ray or ultrasound where appropriate and available.
Physical Therapy
For appropriate musculoskeletal conditions, employees may be referred for physical therapy or other rehabilitation services to support functional recovery and progression toward a safe return to work.
Specialist Evaluation
When additional expertise is necessary, employees may be referred to an appropriate specialist, established treating physician, or another qualified provider.
In-Person Functional Evaluation
When a reliable determination cannot appropriately be made virtually, OPPMed may recommend an in-person examination, functional assessment, or other evaluation before issuing a return-to-work recommendation.
A Plan for Getting Back to Work
A return-to-work assessment may result in more than a single clearance decision. When appropriate, an OPPMed physician can establish a time-limited return-to-work plan that identifies:

Important Distinction
Return-to-work and fitness-for-duty determinations are individualized medical assessments. The ability to complete an assessment virtually depends on the employee’s condition, available medical information, job demands, and the nature of the requested determination. OPPMed may require or recommend additional records, diagnostic testing, specialist evaluation, functional testing, or an in-person examination before providing a final recommendation.
